Ames Church began in 1873 when some members of First Methodist Church of Saginaw City got tired of their long ride to church each Sunday and decided to build a mission church near their farms. (Yes, our location used to be out in the country!) They named the new church after Bishop Edward R. Ames, who had presided over a Methodist conference in Saginaw the year before.
Ames outgrew its original wood-frame building, but nearly 140 years later, our current church building still marks its spot. More importantly, the people who make up Ames are still committed to serving our neighbors — both those that live in our corner of northwest Saginaw, and those around the world.
