Ames is working with Michigan Blood in the fight against blood cancer. We are hosting a Match Registry Drive on Wednesday, Novem-ber 19 from 3 to 7 pm.
There is a young man, Derrick Nash, a Car-rolton High School graduate, suffering from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He is currently in need of a bone marrow transplant. “Be the Match” is a registry for patients who needs a bone marrow or stem cell transplant. When a patient turns to Be the Match for a donor, he or she is most likely to find a match from someone who shares the same ethnic background. Many patients with leukemia, lymphoma, sickle cell anemia or other blood-related cancers and disor-ders may get to the point in treatment where a marrow or stem cell transplant is their only hope for a cure. You can take part in giving pa-tients like Derrick a cure.
If you are between the ages of 18 and 44, you can join Derrick in his fight against blood can-cer by registering as a potential donor. It’s as simple as swabbing your cheek!
